RAGUNATH CHOWDHURY

The death anniversary of Raghunath Choudhary, popularly known as Bihogi Kobi, was observed on the month of November.

Raghunath Choudhary (1879–1967) was an Indian writer associated with the Jonaki era, the romantic era of Assamese literature. He is famously known as Bihogi Kobi (the poet of birds) due to his frequent portrayal of birds and nature in his works.

Choudhary was also an active participant in the Indian independence movement and was imprisoned by the British for his involvement.

He served as the President of the Tezpur session of the Asam Sahitya Sabha in 1936 and was honored with the title Kabiratna by the Kamrup Sanjeevani Sabha.

Literary Career

Choudhary’s literary journey began with the publication of his first poem in Jonaki magazine. He also used Sanskrit and Arabic in his writings, adding a distinctive touch to his work.

His first major literary work was Xaadori (1910), followed by several other important contributions to Assamese literature.
