Academic and Career:
Dr. Birendranath Datta, an academician, folklorist, and artiste, had a successful academic career.
He secured high positions in matriculation and ISc examinations.
He obtained his BA and MA degrees in economics from Visva Bharati University and Gauhati University, respectively.
In 1974, he earned a PhD degree from Gauhati University for his thesis on the folk culture of Goalpara district.

Dr. Datta served at various academic institutions, including Gauhati University, B Borooah College, and Tezpur University.
He also served as the former president of Asom Sahitya Sabha for North Lakhimpur and Hojai Session in 2003 and 2004 respectively and had been unwell for some time

As an artiste, Dr. Datta regularly performed and produced music programs for All India Radio.
