Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) Scheme

  • Launched by the Government of India in 2022.

  • The duration of scheme is proposed to be from 2022-23 to 2026-27; after which it shall be the responsibility of the States/UTs to continue to maintain the benchmarks achieved by these schools.

  • These schools will showcase the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 and emerge as exemplar schools over a period of time, and also offer leadership to other schools in the neighborhood.

  • They will provide leadership in their respective regions in providing high-quality education in an equitable, inclusive and joyful school environment that takes care of the diverse background, multilingual needs, and different academic abilities of children and makes them active participants in their own learning process as per the vision of NEP 2020.

Objective:

  • Development Focus: Enhance over 14,500 schools across India, including those managed by Central, State, UT Governments, and local bodies.

  • Goal: Foster students into engaged, productive, and contributing citizens, aligned with the National Education Policy 2020.

Key Features:

  • Exemplar Schools: Selected schools will serve as models, showcasing NEP 2020 components and mentoring nearby schools.

  • Green Schools: Emphasis on environment-friendly practices.

  • Pedagogy:

  • Experiential, holistic, integrated, play/toy-based (especially for early years), inquiry-driven, discovery-oriented, learner-centric, discussion-based, flexible, and enjoyable.

  • Focus: Improvement in learning outcomes for every student.

  • Assessment: Competency-based, emphasizing conceptual understanding and real-life application.

  • Skill Linkages: Coordination with Sector Skill Councils and local industries to enhance employability and job opportunities.

  • Quality Assessment: Development of a School Quality Assessment Framework (SQAF) with key performance indicators for regular evaluation to maintain high standards.

The PM SHRI scheme aims to transform schools into model institutions reflecting the principles of NEP 2020, promoting holistic education and sustainability while improving educational outcomes and employability.
