Prof. Bhaba Prasad Chaliha, a native of Naharkatia, spent nearly thirty years as a professor in the Assamese department at Gauhati University.
Following his retirement, he assumed leadership roles in cultural and literary organisations, notably as the president of the Asom Puthibharal Sangha and as a legal practitioner at the Gauhati High Court.
Prof. Chaliha was a luminary in Sankari literature, boasting a rich oeuvre of over 45 books and 300 articles in Assamese, English, and Sanskrit.
