Assam Cabinet has recently taken significant decisions.
Key decisions of Assam Cabinet
- Boosting income of Annadatas – Cabinet has approved implementation of Additional Support Price (Top Up) over and above MSP for paddy and mustard, w.e.f 1 April 2025-31 March 2026-
- Paddy: ₹250 per quintal additional Support Price
- Mustard: ₹500 per quintal additional Support Price
Darrang Medical College:
- To realise the vision of Health for All, Cabinet has approved a new Medical College and Hospital in Darrang which will be built at a cost of ₹572 crore.
- It will have 430 beds and the will intake 100 MBBS students annually
- Additionally, Cabinet has directed adding of BSc Nursing school and GNM school alongside the Darrang Medical College project
- Extending FPS License Validity – Cabinet has approved extension of the validity period of licenses of all the Fair Price Shops in the state of Assam up to 30th June, 2026 by a general order
- Ensuring Better Child Care – Cabinet has approved the amendment of Child Care Leave Rules to allow Child Care Leave (CCL) to single male State Government employees who are widower or divorcee having the custody of the child, upto a limit of two children
- To introduce CCL Rules for a maximum period of two years (i.e.730 days) to female Government employees and single male Government employees who have custody of disabled children of any age
- Relief to Salaried Middle Class – Cabinet has approved Draft Notification to exempt payment of Professional Tax upto the salary of ₹15,000.00 for F.Y.2025-26
- Salary upto ₹15,000- NIL tax
- Salary from ₹15,001-₹25,000-₹180/month
- Salary of ₹25,001 and above-₹208/month
- Extending Tax Relief to Tea Industry – Cabinet has approved extension of tax exemption given to the tea industry from payment of cess on green tea leaf for a further period of two years from 1st January, 2025
- Extending Forest Area – Cabinet has approved conversion of Nayekgaon Pt I PRF under BTC Kokrajhar/Haltugaon, covering a total area of 774 ha into Reserve Forest of 180 ha
- Enhancing Administrative Efficiency – Cabinet has approved in-principle the initiation of the process for reorganization of Health Blocks in tandem with Co Districts and Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) (after delimitation)
- Ensuring Effective Coordination of Climate Change efforts – To streamline activities and have a common nodal point for more effective and coordinated efforts to combat climate change in Assam, Cabinet has approved
- Renaming of “Science, Technology and Climate Change Department” as “Science and Technology Department”
- Renaming of “Environment and Forest Department” as “Environment, Forest and Climate Change” Department and declaring it as the Nodal Department for Climate Change related activities
- Ensuring Ease of Doing Business for Small Traders – Cabinet has approved the amendments to the Assam Panchayat (Financial) Rules, 2002 pertaining to the settlement of Haats/ Ghats/Fisheries/Ponds etc.
- Under the amendments
- No settlement of assets shall be awarded to a lessee who is involved in any kind of heinous crimes, extortion, etc. and the concerned GP/AP/ZP will provide basic amenities for the haat/ghat settled by them and the lessee will be responsible for cleanliness
- Tax will be levied annually/biannually from the regular vendors, traders, hawkers only. No tax shall be collected for petty household produces like vegetables & agricultural and dairy products
- Cabinet has directed creation of a digital platform for issue of on-demand Trade license for conducting business in Panchayat areas
