Assam becomes the first state in India to roll out Co-Districts, a move aimed at improving administrative efficiency by decentralizing governance. The initiative will start with the launch of 39 Co-Districts on 4th and 5th October 2024.
Objectives of Co-Districts
- Create smaller administrative units below the district level.
- Ensure timely access to government services for citizens.
- Improve efficiency by bringing governance closer to the grassroots.

- Land Revenue Matters

- Issuance of certificates: Next of Kin, Caste, Non-Creamy Layer, PRC, etc.
- Land matters: Sale permission, etc.
- Land Record Assistants: (Lot Mandal) transfer/posting.
- Appointment: Gaon Pradhan (village head) and Mouzadars.
- Land Revenue Collection.
- Developmental Works / Welfare Schemes

- Schemes: Orunodoi, MLALAD, MPLAD works.
- Assistance to Anganwadi centers: Schools, Sub-centers, Government Hospitals, Drinking Water Schemes, Swachh Bharat Mission, etc.
- Supervision: Development works in Panchayats, Blocks, Town Committees, and Municipal Bodies.
- Magisterial Powers

- Permissions: For events, functions, and fairs.
- Executive Magistrate Courts: As per CrPC and BNSS (when applicable).
- Food and Civil Supplies

- Distribution of PDS rice / kerosene allotment.
- Licensing: For Fair Price (FP) shops and GPSS.
- Lifting of midday meal food grains.
