Historical & Architectural Significance:

  • Pre-Ahom era standing stone temple.
  • Located on the banks of the Brahmaputra.
  • Covers 7 bighas with multiple temples in its premises.
  • Garbhagriha (sanctum) still intact up to the Jangha portion despite being built using dry masonry.
  • Unique architecture:
    • Blend of Pre-Ahom & Ahom-era
    • Brick masonry added later.
    • Panchratha-style construction with a Siva-linga as the main deity.

Major Discoveries:

  • Unearthing of a Nandi sculpture during construction led to excavations.

    • Extended mandapa (pillared hall).
    • Ancient brick walls & stone floors.
    • Intricate potsherds and brick plinth with a water spout.
    • Multiple Kalasha & stone fragments, indicating a multi-temple complex.
