India’s SDG Performance
SDG Index Score: Improved from 57 (2018) to 71 (2023-24).
State-Wise Performance
- Kerala & Uttarakhand lead with 8 goals each scoring above 80 (Achievement Indicator).
- Challenges: Over 9 states showed a decline in:
- No Poverty (SDG-1)
- Gender Equality (SDG-5)
- Reduced Inequality (SDG-10)
- Strong Institutions (SDG-16)
Goal-Specific Achievements
- SDG-3 (Good Health & Well-Being):
- Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) reduced from 130 (2014-16) to 97 (2018-20) per 1,00,000 live births.
- SDG-4 (Quality Education):
- Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education increased from 7% (2014-15) to 28.4% (2021-22).
- SDG-6 (Clean Water & Sanitation):
- Rural Access to Improved Drinking Water: 95%
- Urban Access:2% (2020-21).
- SDG-7 (Affordable & Clean Energy):
- Renewable energy capacity rose from 80 GW (Dec 2023) to 209.44 GW (Dec 2024).
Budgetary Allocations
- States like Haryana, Odisha & Meghalaya now publish SDG-specific budgets.
- Developing nations need USD 4 trillion annually to achieve SDGs.
