Addressing the people of Assam on the occasion of the country’s 76th Republic Day, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya highlighted the State’s economic growth while stating that Assam today stands as a beacon of growth and resilience propelled by sustained efforts across diverse sectors. Highlights of Assam’s Growth and Achievements Economic Growth GSDP Growth: Assam’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) grew at an average rate of 33%, reaching ₹5.70 lakh crore in 2023-24, a 19% growth, exceeding the national average of 9.6%. Per Capita Income: Increased to ₹1,58,807 in 2023-24, marking an 18% rise compared to the previous year. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Assam integrated SDGs into its development framework under Assam Agenda 2030. Transitioned from “Aspirant” to “Front Runner” in the SDG India Index. Achieved Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) with a top score of 100 in the country. Law and Order Improvements Insurgency control with many groups laying down arms due to memoranda of settlement. Crime against Women: Cases reduced significantly to 5,173 in 2024 from 12,070 in 2023. Anti-Narcotics Campaign: 10,700 cases registered under the NDPS Act. Over 17,000 drug traffickers arrested and large quantities of narcotics seized. Anti-Child Marriage Drive: Registered 6,361 cases. Human Trafficking Control: 454 cases registered, 695 traffickers arrested, and 900 victims rescued. Anti-Corruption: 59 trap cases executed in 2024 under the “Zero Tolerance” Social Development Initiatives Education, Health, and Skill Development: Focus on creating a knowledgeable, skilled, and healthy society. Disaster Management and Environmental Sustainability: Commitment to future generations. Infrastructure and Rural Development Significant advancements in power, drinking water, sanitation, and land reforms. Improvements in rural infrastructure and targeted welfare programs. Governance and Vision Peace and Prosperity: Achieved through successful resolution of conflicts, robust fiscal management, and innovative policies. Entrepreneurship and Youth Empowerment: Boosted through targeted programs for marginalized communities. Governor’s Vision Highlighted the spirit of unity, resilience, and sustained efforts for a peaceful and prosperous Assam. Emphasized collective contribution to ensure harmony and sustainable development for a brighter future.
