India emerging as a global logistics hub, aligning with Viksit Bharat 2047 Logistics Costs & Infrastructure Enhancement: Logistics costs currently 13-14% of GDP; government aims to reduce it to single digits by 2030 through infrastructure & supply chain improvements. Multi-modal transformation: High-speed roads, hyperloops, and new airports to cut transport times by 66% and boost competitiveness. India’s Global Economic Position: Projected to surpass Japan and become 4th largest economy by 2026. Requires strong policy support, especially PM Gati Shakti & National Logistics Policy. Major Investments under PM Gati Shakti: 434 projects worth ₹11.17 lakh crore identified for logistics efficiency across key economic corridors (energy, minerals, cement, port connectivity, high-traffic sectors). International Recognition: The report by Messe Stuttgart India & EAC International Consulting released ahead of LogiMAT India 2025 (Feb 13-15, Mumbai). PM Gati Shakti: Transforming India's Infrastructure and Connectivity Launched on October 13, 2021. Aims to enhance multi-modal connectivity and integrated infrastructure planning across ministries. Digital platform ensures real-time coordination among 44 Central Ministries and 36 States/UTs. Focus: Reducing logistics costs, improving last-mile connectivity, and cutting travel time. Key Components Integration of Infrastructure Schemes Includes Bharatmala, Sagarmala, inland waterways, dry/land ports, and UDAN. District-Level Integration District Master Plan (DMP) portal being developed for collaborative planning at the local level. Beta version launched for 28 aspirational districts; full rollout by March 31, 2025. Major Achievements Under PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP) Roads & Railways 8,891 km of roads planned under MoRTH. 27,000 km of railway lines planned under Ministry of Railways. Energy & Renewable Projects 13 GW Green Energy Corridor from Leh (Ladakh) to Kaithal (Haryana) optimized for inter-state transmission. Logistics & Industrial Planning Goa used the NMP platform for disaster management in flood-prone areas along the Amona River. Gujarat planned a 300 km coastal corridor, reducing NoC permissions from 28 to 13, boosting tourism and trade. Education & Skill Development UP’s Pahunch Portal identified locations for new schools in underserved areas. Department of School Education linked PM Shri Schools with local industries for skill training. Ministry of Skill Development mapped training institutes near economic clusters. Health & Rural Development Ministry of Health mapped internet shadow areas to improve healthcare access. PM JanMan portal identified infrastructure gaps for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). MoRD integrated PMGSY & PMAY-G for better planning and rural asset development. Future Prospects Enhanced infrastructure planning with 1,614 integrated data layers. Continued development of digital tools like eDRS for petroleum pipelines, reducing survey time from 6-9 months to 1 day. Expansion of district-level digital planning for nationwide coordination. PM Gati Shakti is a game changer for India’s infrastructure landscape, aiming for seamless connectivity, economic growth, and logistics efficiency.
