The mission's efforts have brought about a dramatic transformation in India's healthcare landscape. On January 22, 2025, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) plan and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana celebrated their tenth anniversary of launch. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) Launched under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme to secure the future of girl children. Aims to foster financial security, education, and empowerment through specialized savings accounts for girls. Key Features Eligibility Available for resident Indian girl children. Accounts can be opened from birth until the girl turns 10. Maximum two accounts per family (exceptions for twins or triplets). Deposit and Contributions Initial deposit: ₹250 (minimum). Annual deposit limit: ₹1,50,000. Deposits can be made for up to 15 years, with guardians managing the account until the girl turns 18. Account Maturity Matures 21 years from the opening date. Early closure permitted for marriage purposes (after age 18). Withdrawals Up to 50% of the balance can be withdrawn after age 18 or upon completing Class 10 for education purposes. Premature Closure Allowed due to the account holder's death or for compassionate grounds like severe illness. Closure within the first five years is not permitted. Achievements Over 4.1 crore accounts opened as of November 2024. Promotes financial discipline and long-term savings for girls' education and empowerment. Gender Indicators Progress in India Educational Gender Gap Women’s Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education rose from 23.5% (2015-16) to surpass men by 0.2 percentage points in 2021-22 (AISHE data). At secondary and higher secondary levels, female enrolment has equaled or exceeded male enrolment since 2015-16. Sex Ratio at Birth Improved from 898 females per 1,000 males (2014-16) to 907 (2018-20), per Sample Registration System (SRS). National Family Health Survey 5 (2019-21) indicates a rise from 919 (2015-16) to 929 (2019-21). Maternal and Infant Health Maternal mortality reduced to 97 per lakh live births. Infant mortality fell to 28 per 1,000 live births. Institutional Deliveries Institutional deliveries have nearly achieved a 100% rate nationwide. Initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana have contributed substantially to improving the socio-economic conditions for women. Progress in indicators like sex ratio, education, health, and financial security reflects strides toward a more inclusive society.
